Accounting software you should avoid at all costs!
Any kind with the word MODULE in it. That means you must exclude every other accounting software company except Plus & Minus.
What is MODULAR-based software? It’s software that is not properly equipped to handle all your accounting needs. MODULAR-based accounting software means that if you want to have a software package other than the basic core of 3 programs (General Ledger, A/R, and A/P), you have to first pay extra for it, and second, you then have to pay “implementation consultants” another giant sum of money to make sure the newly added on software will communicate correctly with the general ledger.
Can you imagine buying a car with just an engine? Oh, would you like your car to go forward and backward? Well, that’s going to cost you because now you need a transmission. Would you prefer a manual or automatic one? A 5-speed or 6-speed manual? A 5-speed or 8-speed automatic? Yes, a transmission will cost extra, and you will have to pay for the labor to get it installed and connected to the engine. (A software consultant who has a video course on accounting software conversions actually uses the term “bolt-on” to define the addition of modules to the main accounting program.)
Would you like doors with that car? Of course. Do you want door locks? Of course. Do you want manual or automatic door locks? Automatic, of course. A radio? A heater? A/C? Glove box? Console? By the way, how much am I paying in additional charges for these add-ons? Well, the add-ons are about $35,000, but the cost to connect all those items to the car will cost about $150,000. What? $150,000 is a lot of money. Yes, that’s a lot of money, but even worse is the amount of time it will take to get the whole project completed. How much time are we talking about? At a minimum, 9 months given that everything goes smoothly and there are no problems getting the add-ons electrically connected to the car. Getting the light to go on in the console bin when you open it is a tricky part of the connection. If we don’t have the wires just perfectly matched, there could be a short circuit which we then have to solve.
I have an idea. I’ll just buy my accounting software from Plus & Minus. One complete package with one simple pricing plan. If you need a good “implementation consultant,” check your local unemployment office for one.
